Comparison of Downconversion Techniques for Software Radio
نویسنده
چکیده
Software radio is an enabling technology for future radio transceivers, allowing the realisation of multimode, multiband, and reconfigurable base stations and terminals. This paper describes work comparing two suitable methods of downconverting RF signals to baseband, which may be used in software radios. These are direct conversion and bandpass sampling. The performance of each method is evaluated and the effects of the specifications of the front end bandpass filter on the receiver performance are analysed, in terms of bit error rate.

Measuring Demodulator Imbalance in Radio Frequency Receivers by Tone Test
The measurement of in-phase/quadrature (IQ) imbalance parameters of radio frequency direct downconversion receivers by tone test is considered. The receiver is excited by a radio frequency sinewave, and the digital baseband output is used as the sole basis for the determination of the IQ imbalance parameters, which are the gain imbalance, quadrature skew and local oscillator leakage. A set of p...
متن کاملA software radio architecture for multi-channel digital upconversion and downconversion using generalized polyphase filterbanks with frequency offset correction
Polyphase FilterBanks (PFBs) provide a computationally efficient approach to extracting channels of arbitrary bandwidth from a wideband signal. This technique, know as digital downconversion, would find use in software radio applications. Conversely, PFBs can also be used to perform digital upconversion, a process in which a wideband signal is constructed from several narrowband channels. In th...

متن کاملA 0.18- m CMOS CMFB DOWNCONVERSION MICROMIXER WITH DEEP N-WELL TECHNOLOGY FOR LO-RF AND LO-IF ISOLATION IMPROVEMENTS
CMOS deep N-well technology can eliminate the physical effects of NMOS transistors and reduce substrate noise and coupling in order to reach the NMOS channel. These properties result in better LO-IF and LO-RF isolations in a Gilbert micromixer. Two identical 0.18m CMOS downconversion micromixers (except at the RF input stage) with deep N-well or without deep N-well are fabricated in adjacent ar...
متن کاملA combined receiver front-end for Bluetooth and HiperLAN/2
A Software Defined Radio is a radio receiver that is reconfigurable by software. This reconfigurability leads to flexibility that can be used to offer more functionality to the user. Also, because common reconfigurable hardware can be used for very diverse radio interfaces, production and logistics can be faster and cheaper. In our Software Defined Radio project we aim at a receiver that is abl...
